The offer, from Tesco Mobile, which goes live on January 30th, applies to new and existing customers on pay monthly and SIM only contracts.
Currently, Tesco Mobile levies a £2.50 per month premium for customers who add 4G data to their calls and texts bundle.
In keeping with Tesco Mobile's positioning as a 'value' network, the cheapest Tesco Mobile 4G SIM only tariff will be priced £7.50 per month. Tesco Mobile has also confirmed plans to offer 4G data bundles to pay as you go customers and will be adding 4G-capable smartphones to its handset range, including the Motorola Moto X and Sony Z1 Compact.As a MVNO (that's a mobile virtual network operator),
Tesco Mobile shares O2's network. That means Tesco Mobile 4G will be available in the same locations as O2's 4G service.
Cities covered currently include London, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bradford, Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Sheffield and Nottingham.
O2 intends to have extended its 4G reach so that by 2015 it is able to offer indoor 4G coverage to 98% of the UK population.
